Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association offers a "Competitive (Rep) Program" that provides its players the opportunity to develop their skills and play at a higher level of competition. There are competitive teams starting at the Mosquito age level and going up to the Midget age level.
Division is based on birth year -
11U (Mosquito) age 10 & 11
13U (PeeWee) age 12 & 13
15U (Bantam) age 14 & 15
18U (Midget) age 16-18
Coaches for the Rep Program are selected in February/March/April. Player evaluations or tryouts are conducted in early spring. These evaluations involve independent evaluators with a baseball background and an understanding of how the evaluation system works. These tryouts evaluate each player’s baseball skill, development potential, sportsmanship, perceived dedication to the program, and various other factors. Competitive baseball is intended for those players with above average ability, commitment, and desire to play baseball at a higher level of competition. The rep program is committed to player development and encouraging players to reach the next level of baseball. A significant commitment is required by each player and their parents in order to have a successful experience playing rep baseball. Part of this baseball commitment includes time, financial, as well as a travel commitment. This level will typically practice at least twice a week and play almost every weekend, starting in early May and going to August. Depending on how the teams do, there are Provincial, National and Western Canadian Championships that the team can qualify for (Mosquito only has a Provincial Championship).
